Backpack in Argentina

Cordoba

Essential Information: the main bus terminal is a 10 minute walk from the centre. The airport is 15kms north of the centre and can be reached by Bus A5 from Plaza San Martin or by taxi.

Recommended tourist sites and activities: in 2006 Cordoba was named 'Cultural Capital of the Americas'. There are several beautiful churches to visit such as Iglesia Catedral and the Jesuit Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus. The Iglesia de Santa Teresa has a museum of religious art. The Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes Emilio Caraffa has free admission and is just around the corner from Cordoba Backpackers. The Museo Historico Provincial Marques de Sobremonte was built in 1752 and is one Cordoba's oldest surviving houses. It's on Rosario de Sante Fe 218.

The city has seven universities and consequently has a great nightlife. The nightlife centres around Nuevo Cordoba and the more grungy Abasto area. The tipple of the city is the herby Italian liquor called fernet which is normally consumed with coke.
