Essential Information: The airport is 23km east of town. Transpatagonia has shuttle servies to the airport. In the summer it is advisable to book flights into and out of El Calafate well in advance. The bus terminal in the center of town on Avenue Roca. There are plenty of ATM machines and places to change money.

Recommended tourist sites and activities: The main attraction is the Perito Moreno Glacier. One of only two advancing glaciers in all of South America, Moreno Glacier is a wonder to behold with ice blocks constantly cracking off and landing in Lago Argentino. Moreno Glacier is in Parque Nacional Los Glaciers which is about 80kms away from El Calafate. The park includes other glaciers and has boat trips and possible tours onto the ice. See adventure.

Nearby to El Calafate is El Chalten, a small village and the gateway to the impressive Fitz Roy Mountain Range.

Five and half hours away is Puerto Natales in Chile from there you can witness the 3000m granite spires in Parque Nacional Torres del Paine. See Travel.
