Essential Information: the bus station is a 15-minute walk from the city center. You can catch the Villa Nueva trolley car to the center from the bus terminal. The airport is 6kms from the center and can be reached by taxi or Bus 60 from Calle Salta. The tourist information office is on Avenue San Martin and you can change cash and traveller's cheques at Cambio Santiago also on Avenue San Martin.

Recommended Sights and Activities: Mendoza was destroyed by an earthquake in 1861 and re-built with beautiful wide avenues and the 420-hectare General San Martin park in the center. The park contains Cerro de la Gloria, a great viewpoint. In the city there is the Museo Fundacional with exhibits from the old and new Mendoza. In the main plaza called Plaza Independencia there is an artisan's market. Plaza Pelegrini has a weekend market with music and dancing.

Outside the city there are several wineries to visit and sample the wares. Combining wine tasting with mountain biking is a popular activity.

Mendoza is nestled next to the high Andes. Only a few hours away by bus is Aconcagua (6,959m), the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere.

In the winter there is world-class skiing and snowboarding routes to try at Los Penitentes Resort and Los Lenos.
