Puerto Iguazu
 

Essential Information: Puerto Iguazu is near the Iguazu Falls, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site. The falls are on the border with Brazil (Foz do Iguacu). A visa is necessary to cross over to Brazil. A Brazilian visa can be obtained at the consulate (Av. Cordoba 264) in 30 minutes. You can also enter Paraguay from Puerto Iguazu (no visa required) The bus station is 10 minutes away from the centre. There's an airport a few kms out of town. Puerto Iguazu is tourist central and the prices in the bars and restaurants reflect this.

Recommended tourist sites and activities: If you go to Puerto Iguazu you go to the Iguazu Falls. Entry for foreigners is $16. The falls are in a National Park. There are several walksways to explore and boat trips to go on. The highlight is the overhead view from the Garganta de Diablo viewpoint. The falls are also worth a visit from the Brazilian side. It is possible to make a day trip to Ciudad del Este in Paraguay and the Itaipu Dam. For those interested in gems, Wanda Mines (40kms from Puerto Iguazu) are open cast quartz and amethyst mines.
