Backpack in Argentina

Rosario

Essential Information: the main bus terminal is 4km west of the centre. For those with money to burn there's an airport in Rosario with several flights a day to Buenos Aires. There's a train to BA on Sundays at 6pm. It's cheap but unreliable.

Recommended tourist sites and activities: Rosario has about one million inhabitants but it feels like alot more because it a lively university city with plenty of impressive architecture. There is a massive monument to General Belgrano who designed the Argentine flag (Monumento Nacional a la Bandera) by the river. The Museo Municipal de Belles Artes Juan B Castagnino has a collection of European and Argentine paintings. There are several river beaches to enjoy including Catalunya Beach (bus 153 from the city centre) and Isla Invernada where you can camp (take a ferry).

For Che heads the visit to Casa Natal Ernesto 'Che' Guevara is a must (Entre Rios 480).

There are several great bars and clubs in the city. On Sundays everyone goes down to the park by the Rio Parana to relax and enjoy several cups of herba mate
