Tafi del Valle

Essential Information: Everywhere is just a short walk from the bus station. Tafi del Valle is in the Sierra da Aconquija, 1,976 m above sea level. The small town is 107km from Tucuman. Tafi is famous for it's cheese which is based on an old Jesuit recipe.

Recommended Sights and Activities: the countryside around Tafi is spectacular. There are several treks to try including the walk to El Mellar (2 hours). Other places of interest include the 20m waterfall Cascada Los Alisos (13km from Tafi); Valle de la Cienaga (3 hour walk to some ruins); Museo Casa Duende (a museum 6km from Tafi that explains local myths and legends); and the Menhir Park in El Mellar.

The main attraction for Tafi, however, is just to stroll around in the countryside and revel in the views and the peace and quiet. The town gets busier during the hotter months of December, Janauary and February when city dwellers from Tucuman come to escape the heat.

Tafi holds a cheese festival every year in February.
