Travel Information for Ushuaia
 

Las Malvinas International Airport is 4kms south of town. A taxi to the airport costs for about $5. The airport departure tax is $6.50. There are scheduled flights to Rio Gallegos, Trelew, El Calafate, Buenos Aires and Comodoro Rivadavia in Argentina. International flights go to Santiago and Punta Arenas in Chile and to the Falkland Islands (UK). The flights can get booked up well in advance. The flight to Buenos Aires costs $150 which is great value considering buses from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia cost $160!

There isn't a bus terminal in Ushuaia. Various bus companies are scattered around town, the most important of which is Tecni-Austral on Av.Roca 157 which has services to Rio Grande (4 hrs), Rio Gallegos (13 hrs) and Comodoro Rivadavia (24 hrs). They also go on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to Punta Arenas in Chile.

Lider on Gobernador Paz 921 has services to Rio Grande and Tohuin (2.5hrs). Transport Pasarela has a shuttle bus service to Lago Esmeralda and Lago Escondido.

To get to Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego you can catch a taxi to the train station (8kms from the center) and catch the steam train. The much cheaper alternative is a minbus from the corner of Av. Maipu and 25 de Mayo. They go every 30 minutes and cost $11.

A taxi to the ski resort at Carro Castor (27kms from Ushuaia) costs $25

Bus from Ushuaia to Rio Gallegos costs $59

Buses north have to cross into Chile and out again. The transit visa is free but Chilean customs make you remove your baggage for scanning and might confiscate sandwiches and fruit.
